BİOSU MBR
Membrane bioreactor — the highest effluent quality in the BİOSU family, suitable for water reuse.
What Is MBR?
BİOSU MBR is a membrane bioreactor: the biological stage and the solid–liquid separation happen in the same tank, with a membrane barrier replacing the settling tank. Because separation no longer depends on how well the sludge settles, the effluent quality does not follow the fluctuation at the inlet. It is the only model in the family that produces a reuse-quality effluent.
- •100 – 10,000 population equivalent
- •Design flow 10 – 1,000 m³/day
- •Reuse-quality effluent
- •Bacteria and virus barrier: 3–6 log
- •Compact layout — no separate clarifier

How It Works
- 1Biological treatment — the organic load is removed in the aeration tank as usual.
- 2Membrane separation — instead of settling, water is drawn through the membrane; the biomass stays in the reactor.
- 3Permeate — the filtered water leaves as an effluent free of suspended solids, bacteria and viruses.
- 4Air scour and backwash — the membrane surface is kept clean; chemical cleaning follows a periodic schedule.
When MBR Is the Right Choice
Choose it when
the treated water will be reused (irrigation, toilet flushing, process or boiler feed), the discharge limit is strict, or the available space is restricted.
Look at another model when
- •The only goal is to meet a standard discharge limit at the lowest cost — SBR is more economical.
- •The load spikes hard and unpredictably and reuse is not required — MBBR handles shock loads with a simpler operation.
- •There is no capacity to run a periodic membrane cleaning regime.
Saying where a technology is not the right answer is part of the selection. The comparison across all three is on the packaged plants page.
Capacity and Effluent
Flows above this range are met with modular units in parallel or with a project-specific design. The exact model and design flow for your project are fixed with a wastewater analysis.
