Chemical Industry Wastewater Treatment
Complex chemical compositions, toxic substances and variable flows. We treat the chemical industry's most challenging wastewater.
Wastewater Challenges in the Chemical Industry
Problems
- Organic solvents and intermediates — inhibition of biological treatment
- Variable production — fluctuating flow and concentration from batch processes
- Heavy metals and toxic residues — streams requiring dedicated pre-treatment
The GESU Solution
Why GESU?
- Stream segregation and pre-treatment design
- Advanced oxidation (Fenton, ozone) experience
- SBR solutions suited to batch processes
- Hazardous wastewater management consultancy

Chemical Industry — Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled the questions our customers ask most often. If you cannot find the answer you are looking for, contact us.
What makes chemical industry wastewater difficult to treat?
Chemical industry wastewater is highly variable in character and contains refractory organics, toxic compounds, heavy metals and fluctuating pH. Resistance to biological treatment (toxicity, low biodegradability) is the main problem. Every plant needs its own tailor-made treatment recipe.
Which technologies are used?
Advanced oxidation (Fenton, ozone, UV), activated carbon adsorption, coagulation, MBR, stripping, evaporation and ZLD are widely used. The optimal combination is determined after toxicity testing (Microtox, OECD). In the GESU laboratory we perform jar tests and biodegradability analyses.
What is the investment for a chemical industry WWTP?
Investment and operating costs vary with the facility, flow rate and discharge target — request a quote for a free preliminary assessment.
Is a retrofit possible?
Yes. In the chemical sector, GESU has implemented specific stream treatment (segregation), the addition of advanced oxidation and activated carbon tertiary treatment.
