Wastewater treatment companies in Turkey — who does what, and how to choose
Written for buyers sourcing a treatment plant from Turkey. We name the market — including our own competitors — because finding the right supplier matters more to us than winning the wrong job.
Turkey is not one market — it is three
Buyers searching for "wastewater treatment companies in Turkey" get a mixed list: billion-dollar infrastructure contractors sit next to ten-person equipment workshops. They do not do the same work, and asking the wrong group for a quotation wastes weeks.
A treatment plant in Turkey is normally delivered by three separate competences: the process and equipment supplier, the civil contractor, and the engineering consultant. At small and medium scale one company can carry all three. At municipal scale they almost never do.
Below is the map, with real company names.
The three groups
1 · Large municipal plants — EPC contractors
Tens of thousands of m³/day for municipalities and state water authorities, usually tendered publicly. The civil contractor and the process company work as a consortium.
Companies in this group: Arbiogaz (Alarko group), Kuzu Grup, Mass Arıtma, Sistem Yapı, and infrastructure contractors such as Limak, Kolin, Cengiz, Nurol, Makyol and Mapa.
Who deals with them: municipalities, water authorities, state-funded urban projects.
2 · Industrial and mid-scale — process and equipment manufacturers
Factories, industrial zones and food, textile, metal and chemical plants. If you are a private industrial buyer, this is almost certainly your group. Some design and buy in equipment; some manufacture it themselves — the difference matters for spare parts and for who answers when performance falls short.

Who deals with them: industrial plants, organised industrial zones, food and beverage factories, slaughterhouses, textile and plating facilities.
3 · Design and supervision — engineering consultants
They do not build. They produce feasibility studies, designs, specifications and construction supervision, usually on the client side.
Companies in this group: SU-YAPI Engineering and Consulting, Temelsu International Engineering, Dolsar, Encon, Yüksel Proje.
Who deals with them: public authorities, large investors, internationally financed projects.
Why buyers source from Turkey — and what to watch
Turkish manufacturers sit between Western European suppliers and Far Eastern ones: European-standard stainless fabrication and welding practice, shorter lead times, and — for the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and the Caucasus — two to four days by road or short sea freight instead of six weeks by container.
That advantage is real but it is not automatic. Three questions separate suppliers:
- Do you manufacture the equipment yourselves? A manufacturer produces the spare part five years later. A company that buys and assembles depends on its own supplier.
- Do you have named references in my sector? Not total project count — names in your industry, with location, capacity and year, that you can visit.
- Who carries the performance responsibility? Is the discharge limit guaranteed in the contract? Is there a site acceptance test? Are commissioning and operator training in scope?
One more, and it tells you the most: ask what they do not do. A supplier who claims everything will not tell you when something goes wrong either.
Where GESU fits
We are in the second group: a process and equipment manufacturer. Engineering, in-house equipment manufacturing and installation are carried out under one responsibility from Bursa.

Before quoting, our engineer tests a sample of your actual wastewater to establish coagulant and polymer type, dose and pH range — so equipment sizing and projected chemical consumption rest on real water, not assumption. What we do not do: we do not act as main contractor in large municipal EPC tenders — that is the first group's work. We do not treat NOx and we do not supply wet electrostatic precipitators (WESP); we have no references in either. We have no overseas offices, branches or agents in any country — every project is executed from the Bursa headquarters and factory.
